PRESS RELEASE

Opening: Friday, January 30, 6:00-8:00pm

In the West Wing, CvsD presents a selection of historical works by Eleanor Coen.  By the early 1940s, Coen had established herself as one of the most important printmakers in Chicago, and the year 1945 found her at peak powers, conjuring an unflinching series of expressionistic lithographs, often portraits, that display a deep sense of power and an aggressive edge, perhaps inspired by the end of WWII.  These rarely seen prints show a very different side of Coen from the more delicate and atmospheric one found in much of the rest of her oeuvre.
