Corbett vs. Dempsey

Eve Garrison's beautiful, gritty paintings and drawings of the city of Chicago are the focus of Corbett vs. Dempsey's first major exhibition. These urban realist works were created while Garrison was an easel painter for the WPA; Garrison's paintings were acquired by state and federal institutions across the US, including the Treasury Art Department in Washington, D.C. Though Eve Garrison was an important artistic figure in Chicago over the span of her 100-year life, her work has been underrepresented in histories of the city's art world. This show is designed to complement the current exhibition at the Terra Museum of American Art, celebrating Chicago painters up to 1945.
