In celebration of the current exhibition Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks, Corbett vs. Dempsey is pleased to present a conversation between artist Tony Tasset and gallerist John Corbett
A keystone figure in Chicago's art scene since his emergence in the mid-1980s, Tasset was part of a consortium of artists whose work incorporated elements of conceptualism, postmodernism, identity, semiotics, and media arts, challenging the dominance of the Imagist generation and the prevalence of painting as a primary medium. Continuing a career that has moved wildly between materials and media, his first show at CvsD includes sculpture, video, and painting. In this free-wheeling conversation, Tasset and Corbett will seek to place the artist's current work in context, both in terms of his own oeuvre and more broadly.
As an overture to the conversation, Tim Daisy will perform a brief drum solo introduction. Daisy is a central figure in the Chicago improvised music scene and runs the label Relay Recordings. His most recent recordings include duets with cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm (Current 23, 2023), trios with violinist Mark Feldman and saxophonist Dave Rempis (Sirocco, 2023), and his long standing duet with Ken Vandermark (Fourth Atlas, 2025).
