Press Release

In The Vault, Corbett vs. Dempsey is screening Don Cherry by Woody and Steina Vasulka. This rarely-seen 20-minute black-and-white film from 1970 features Don Cherry performing solo on the streets of New York City, intoning pocket trumpet from the top of a tall building, treating the city as a kind of Alpine mountainscape, and playing slit drum, ocarina, and wooden flute in Washington Square Park's Centenary Arch, parading into the distance like a pied piper of free music.  In the evocative film, Don is wearing the same Moki-designed shirt that hangs nearby in the galleries.
